Freedom. Heaven. Democracy. Winning the Lottery. A big house. Career. Celebrity. Sex. Smartphone. We are defined by what we dream.
Tanah / Impian (Dream / Land), is an exhibition of screenprinted images taken from Indonesian popular culture over the last 100 years. The exhibition explores how collective imaginings of Indonesia have evolved over the last century, as reflected through advertisements, movie posters, matchboxes, album covers and more.
2014 has been an election year in Indonesia and nationalist rhetoric has been running hot. This exhibition highlights the often stark difference between the ‘Indonesian Dream’ and its reality, and challenges us to think critically about the values that define us as individuals, as a community and as a nation.
Krack! studio is an alternative space slash printmaking studio in Yogya in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, that focuses on work that critically explores issues and developments in the South East Asian region, and innovative approaches to the print medium. The principle members of Krack! are Prihatmoko Moki, Rudi Hermawan and Malcolm Smith
